Here’s what you can look forward to over the next year. If you have any thoughts or any questions, please get in touch. You’ll find the whole teams details on the committee page.
The National Tour
This year the SKA are hoping BUCS will recognise kitesurfing as a competitive university sport. To help convince them we’re hosting a 3 stage national tour comprised of:
- The Slider Jam
- The Wave Jam
- The Freestyle Nationals
Two jam format events and one independently judged knockout format event will decide the best student kitesurfer in the country.
Flexifoil, Mystic and King of Watersports are providing a range of prizes for those who reach the podium at each tour stop, as well as the overall champion.
So far this year we’ve been able to give away
- Shadow harness (Mystic)
- Hadlow board (Flexifoil)
- 2 longboards (KoW)
- £1500 worth of apparel (Flexifoil)
- 5/3mm wetsuit (Mystic)
- 3 Onepiece onesies (Onepiece)
- A selection of beanies (Ignite beanies)
With more prizes promised and the competition hotting up, the next stop on the tour is sure to be an exciting one.
Clinics
Beginners
Last year saw our chicks and beginners clinics fully booked, and we hope to achieve the same again this year. We’ll be running a beginner clinic in October, to get your freshers introduced to the basics of kitesurfing, and to cover some safety essentials which should keep them out of trouble on the first few trips of the year.
Chicas
Resident babes Charlie Davies and Pip Grundy will be hosting the biggest event of its kind in the UK again this year, bringing ladies together from all over the country to share their love of kitesurfing away from the occasionally overwhelming presence of super steezy pro men. We understand that girls, it can’t be easy to focus on your kite when I’m getting fully pitted a short line length away. With several pro riders in attendance, as well as BKSA instructors, this event should help girls of any level get that little bit better, and meet some likeminded individuals in the process.
Intermediate/Pro Men/Women Demo Day/Clinic
Tomo Davis will be organising an intermediate improvement clinic for both the boys and girls, in association with All Good Fun, somewhere in the South East. This one will be a bit of an excuse to get together, chat the usual rubbish, and hopefully try some new gear and some new moves. All Good Fun will provide a range of the latest demo kit, while the SKA will be roping in some friendly pro’s to show you how to use it.
